GRSP Haunted Trail Service Project: CANCELLED

Picture
So much for a rain or shine event. The Friends of GRSP (the group that organizes the Haunted Trail) sent the word out Sat afternoon that, after conferring with the Park rangers, they were cancelling the event on account of the ongoing heavy rains. Good call, as the Haunted Trail is for the little kids and the park is risky ground with the volume of water being dumped in the area.

Next year!

And think of all the candy we are going to have at future crew meetings!

This is always a fun service project.
We will have tables set up at our station and hand out treats to the 1,000 kids that stream by.

Rain or shine this event will take place...unless world ending floods are occurring; but cancellation then would only make sense.

Admission for volunteers is free. If you have not done this before you can ask the folks at the park to direct you to the Crew 285 station. There is an overflow parking lot well above the river that is very close to our position on the trail, so that is the ideal place to park.

Plan to be at our site between 5 and 530 to help set up. We will meet at the park rather than at HEB.  The event starts at 6 and is over at 830 (we will leave earlier if we can). As many as 1,000 trick or treaters will come by our table and they are all in costume so this is a lot of fun.

Bring at least 3 lbs of candy per person to give away, and bring any fun decorations you have to decorate our area. Youth should come in costume. Costume is optional but encouraged for adults.

There is no electricity so electronic devices need to run on battery. Bring a camp chair if you want to be able to sit. Bring a flashlight or headlamp as it will get dark. And we are out in the weather so you might throw a jacket and/or rain parka in your car just in case.

You should eat before you arrive or bring something to eat. The Friends of GRSP will have hot dogs for the volunteers, but we had issues with those last year and they cannot be recommended.
