The Haunted Trail Oct 29-30 2016
The Haunted Trail was on the Saturday night before Halloween, rather than Sunday night as in years past. So it made sense to turn it into an overnight trip!
Youth: Katie, Alyssa T, Louis, Aaron, Chris, Kristin A, Javi, Kat
Adults: Ms. Roca, Mr & Ms Whitworth, Mr. McCulloch, Mr. Lynch, Mr & Ms Soza, Mr. Peek, Dr JT
Guests: Ms. Cooke, Dash, Edan, Mr. Garza, Alejandro, Mr & Ms Devera-Waden, Kross, Sante
We left for the park shortly after 11 AM on Saturday. With 5 campsites reserved we had plenty of elbow room. We had our picnic lunch at one of the sites, set up our tents, and some headed to the river to explore and swim while others chilled at camp.
Mr. Peek and Mr. Garza grilled us up some burgers for an early dinner so we wouldn't feed on candy (or at least save some for the kiddos) at the Haunted Trail!

At 530 we went over to our spot on the Haunted Trail to decorate our area. The Trick or Treater's started coming through just after 6PM and kept coming until 830 PM. While we brought a ton of candy we still ran out at around 815.
We packed-up and those spending the night went back to camp for a roaring campfire (a challenge for Mr. McCulloch and Mr. Peek to get started but they persevered), and a moonless night with the Milky Way in full display. I didnt have the right equipment to capture a proper shot of our galaxy, but you can see the Andromeda Galaxy in this image just above the faintly discernable Milky Way.
We got up at 730 and had breakfast tacos. Mr. McCulloch cracked and scrambled the eggs while chef Peek cooked the eggs, bacon, and heated tortillas on his Grill to Go. At 9 we went back to the Haunted Trail for our service project of cleaning the trail and collecting the remaining decorations and once finished, broke camp and headed for home.
For all of you who attended and went to Philmont this summer you have now completed the requirements for the 50 Miler Award. Congratulations!
