Life Skill: Changing a Tire
It always happens at the most inconvenient time.
A flat tire!
Maybe you have a service like AAA to help you in the event of a flat, but even if you do it is important to be self reliant as you never know when that flat will occur and you might not be able to reach your service.
We discussed handling your vehicle in the event of a blowout, getting the vehicle to a safe location to change the tire, the importance of knowing where your spare, jack, and tools are located and how to access them, knowing where to place the jack on your frame.
Alyssa let us use her RAV4 to demonstrate. While we located the items quickly we had to refer to the manual to figure out how to free the jack from it's compartment.
Then the youth took turns jacking the car up, removing the lugnuts, removing the tire, and mounting the spare. Then we removed the spare, replaced the tire, and tightened the lugnuts, and restored the spare and the tools.
